Planning the keys to a stainless steel jewelry line
The key to investing in stainless steel jewelry is its hypoallergenic nature and long color retention. But what’s the truth and more details behind the scenes?
Choose between 304 & 316L stainless steel
Both 304 and 316L stainless steel are hypoallergenic and do not turn green over time. While 304 stainless steel is suitable for most jewelry categories, 316L stainless steel is more commonly used for body piercings and jewelry for children.

How longlasting is PVD coated jewelry?
Thanks to its unyielding nature and the powerful PVD plating technique, stainless steel jewelry performs the best in color retention and is highly scratch-resistant. It’s one of the best materials for active jewelry, body jewelry, and accessories that are meant for heavy duty.

Make a strategic decision with stainless steel + PVD Coating
PVD plating, also known as IP plating, is the secret of the extended color retention on stainless steel jewelry. It also opens up a new possibility for us, that beautiful jewelry does not have to be expensive.
Stainless Steel: Attainable Cost & Controllable Price Changes
How much is stainless steel + PVD gold plating for this design?
While stainless steel itself is very affordable, its price does not affect the overall jewelry price. Labor and plating would usually be the bigger part.
How much is silver + gold plating for this design?
Silver price highly affects the jewelry price. Giving or taking even 1 gram of silver would cause price fluctuation, not to mention the gold volume used for plating.
- What affect silver/brass products price
Silver volume and attachment materials
Silver is considered precious metal, with trackable price live on line. Any fluctuation of silver price can immensly affect the jewelry price, especially the chunky ones. This is the same for brass which require electroplating to achieve certain colors.
Plating handling
Electroplating on brass and silver usually require larger volume of gold(much thicker layer) compared to PVD plating. This leads to the fact that the cost for gold plated brass/silver pieces is usually higher than that for stainless steel, and highly changable by gold price.
PVD Gold Plating: Confidence in Water & Scratch Resistance
- Key to long lasting plating for PVD gold plating
The Unyielding Core
The harder the jewelry is, the more resistant it is to scratching and grinding. Stainless steel is significantly harder than brass, gold, and silver, offering excellent scratch resistance.
TiN Layer
TiN layer comes in gold color, covering the stainlesss steel base and hence offering great hardness to protect the jewelry body.
PVD, IP Plating Techniques
PVD plating is to cover the jewelry with a thin real gold layer by physically spreading tiny gold powders over the jewelry. The gold volume used is small, but enough to thouroughly cover the jewelry.

Designs structures
Stainless steel performs better in making classic and sleek designs with comparatively less intricate patterns. Consult our engineers and get the best solutions in achieving the designs in a vivid and elegant way.
Market positioning
Matching cost with quality is the best solution for both you and your target client group. People do not expect a $99 piece of jewelry to last long to be a family legacy, and you don't have to make your products last for years when they are meant to be affordable.
